Employers and staff representatives are endeavouring to determine target salary groups for jobs in such a way that fair pay is achieved. However, they are often faced with the dilemma of having only relatively unsuitable, outdated and the reality of work in the company aids available, such as hardly any examples of jobs from collective agreements.

The application of this guidebook provides a model in which the work values of similar jobs are calculated analytically in an industry-neutral way by means of uniform consideration of 20 requirement types in 7 levels each. 

The model uses the work values of the jobs to calculate their assignment to salary groups in salary tables of any level.

The steps are performed in a procedure process structured in 6 phases

• Job-related selection of criteria,
• Interdependence of criteria,
• Evaluation of the criteria,
• Sensitivity test,
• Entry into force and
• Implementation

described in detail. The preparatory work to be carried out once (exclusion of criteria, weighting of criteria, assignment of work values - salary table, creation of job groups) is dealt with in detail.

The process includes a link to the summary method of grouping by means of job examples, so that it can also be applied within the scope of such collective agreements.

The process is designed as a team effort, which is why great importance is attached to helping to prepare, lead and follow up the workshop adequately.

The guide includes the definitions of the 20 individual criteria in 7 levels as well as instructions for the table structure and calculation rules.
