Process models are not an end in themselves, but a prerequisite for optimizing operational processes. But where to start in a process model that includes hundreds of activities and phases of transport and layover times?

This Excel template makes process effort data transparent. It identifies the process steps that determine in particular the process processing times and costs. An example is used to illustrate step-by-step how to prepare the effort data read from a process model for the procedure of an ABC analysis and then carry it out.

The result consists of ranking lists of the process according to the following aspects

• the duration of the individual process steps,
• their costs and separately for the
• transport and idle times in the process.

It also becomes graphically visible in ABC diagrams with 20/50 limits.

A prerequisite for the application is such process modeling software that supports data readouts from the process model. Users who work with the process modeling software Visio can obtain the sample process model in the Visio2000 data format instead of the pdf image of the sample process model at no additional cost.
